My Fellow Americans

My Fellow Americans is a documentary series which captured civil disobedience throughout 2017 in Buffalo, NY. As a photographer I made the decision to highlight citizens and the signs they had made for attending protests, rallies, and marches. The urge to photograph civil disobedience became very apparent in 2016, where I decided 2017 would be a year of passion, diligence, and resistance. A main goal of this project was to make my fellow Americans feel that their efforts were worth it, that they would be remembered as showing up for their beliefs and in the support of others. That this moment in time is real & of significance. This project was time consuming, and was worth every single minute, conversation, email exchange, loss of voice, laugh, tear, handshake and hug. I met so many energized and concerned citizens, I hope they all are staying strong , are politically active, and are finding creative solutions to the issues we face as citizens of the United States & of the world. What I've learned is that citizens will drop almost anything to passionately stand up for the values of the United States we want to live in. Justice & Equality for all, not the very few.
